Elder care can take place in a multitude of locations and for different caring needs - in their homes, in a nursing home, in an assisted living home and in an adult day care facility. Each one offers a wide variety of care. To determine the best place for your loved one is difficult, however, if price is your main concern, we've listed your options below.
1) In-Home Care
This is the best option for people that are able to get around and are still living in their own homes. This is by far the most cost effective since it involves non-medical needs, does not require 24-hour assistance and the client stays in their home where they are most comfortable. Prices range between $13 - $30 an hour, with $19 an hour being the national average.
2) Nursing Home Care
They offer 24/7 care in their health care facility with either a private or shared room. For the person who no longer is able to stay home alone, the skilled nursing care facility offers all medical and social needs of the resident. Prices range from $141 to $655 a day for a private room, whereas a shared room is about 20% less than a shared one.
3) Assisted Living
When living alone is not an option, but total care is not needed, assisted living fills the gap. Basic health care, food preparation, social activities and transportation are offered within these communities. In return, the resident pays a rental fee of $3,477 per month on average. However, for Alzheimer's or dementia residents, the rent will be increased to between $4,619 and $5,757 a month.
4) Adult Day Care
Just as yound children need a babysitter, an elderly parent or loved one may need one also. These facilities provide supervision and socal activities in a structured setting during the day. Prices range from $28 to $148 a day dependant upon the state you're living in.
